Jonathan Berry, Director

Jonathan Berry is an award winning Chicago based director and teacher.  He has directed productions for Steppenwolf, The Goodman, The Roundabout (NY) Steep Theatre, Griffin,  The Gift, Remy Bumppo, American Blues, Northlight, Jackalope and Strawdog - among others.  Select credits include:  
At Steppenwolf:  Lindiwe, The Children, You Got Older, Constellations,  The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, The Crucible.
At Steep:  Paris, Red Rex, Birdland,  Posh, If There Is I Haven’t Found it Yet, The Knowledge, Festen, Moment. 
At The Griffin:  The Harvest, Pocatello, Balm in Gilead, Golden Boy, The Burnt Part Boys, Spring Awakening, Punk Rock, Port, and On the Shore of the Wide World, Company, Picnic, Time and the Conways, Dead End.  
He's served as Assistant Director for Anna D Shapiro’s Broadway productions of Of Mice and Men and This is Our Youth.  And has directed the world premieres of playwright Andrew Hinderaker's Dirty, I am Going to Change the World, and Suicide Incorporated.
His work is regularly nominated for Joseph Jefferson awards, and his work has won for director, production, and ensemble.
He pursued his MFA in directing from Northwestern University and has taught at University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Act One Studios, Columbia College.  

He served as Director an instructor at the prestigious training program, The School at Steppenwolf.  
Most recently, he served 3 years as the Artistic Director of the Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor, Maine.
